LIGHTING STUDIO AlfaTech’s Lighting Studio provides aesthetically pleasing and sustainable design solutions for some of the world’s most complex and high-performing buildings. AlfaTech Lighting Studio brings a creative spirit to each project. We work closely with clients to gain an understanding of project requirements and goals. The Lighting Studio works with the design team to chart the best course based on our client’s objectives, the architect’s design, building systems, facility operational strategies, sustainability goals, and energy efficiency. Every building is unique, each having its own aesthetic and operational preferences. Lighting Studio considers preferences with great attention and detail. We are well-versed in coordinating with a range of consultants handling mechanical, electrical, plumbing, acoustical, structural, landscape, civil, security, and signage. The Lighting Studio possesses a wide range of project experience, offering a range of design and analytical services supporting a project from beginning to post-occupancy. Services include schematic daylighting design studies, facility orientation, and daylighting modeling to yield favorable LEED accreditation outcomes. AlfaTech Lighting Studio delivers solutions to address a range of goals, reducing energy consumption by harvesting daylight. Our Lighting Studio aims to delight occupants by bringing the daylight into a space by evenly distributing light while mitigating glare by considering how the eye adapts. We believe design should seamlessly transition from daylight to electric lighting, dynamically considering the sun’s rotation as it engages with a space. Our approach ensures a stimulating space that plays with light and shadow. Additionally, outdoor views have positive effects. Lighting Studio values and brings a biophilic design connecting occupants with nature. DESIGN THAT PLAYS WITH DAYLIGHT AND CONNECTS WITH NATURE

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS

AlfaTech Lighting Studio engages daylighting model software to provide visual representations of how daylight will impact a facility. These images allow more informed design decision-making. Our clients expect floor plan calculation points and renderings to gain a better sense of light distribution. Lighting Studio provides floor plans, 3D views, and sectional perspectives to gain an insight into how daylight affects the space.

Lighting Design 42,000 SF

The firm provided lighting design for this advanced technology office space.

The firm worked closely with the architect to develop a biophilic design that includes a living wall. 3500K was utilized for this component to promote plant growth and highlight the wall and its green colors. The integration of daylight in the design promoted the concepts of nature while it allowed a reduction of the LPD (light power density). The architects used the seven highest mountains of each of the seven continents, called the Seven Summits to inspire the design of the space. They combined sharp angles and cool colors to create a consistent and beautiful design. The firm used a warm white tone to add a welcoming touch to the space, as well as to enhance the angles and colors. We also used pendants to emphasize the sharp angles and promote the concept even further. The project was designed below 20% of code required wattage per California Title 24.

The architect wanted to create a lounge area that was both cozy and refreshing. To aide with acoustics, we chose the Light Echo Grid Acoustic fixture which has a fun look and also puts out a good amount of light (see image above). The space is consistent with a gaming area for workers to take breaks and to share a fun space at the end of the day. The space contains arcades, video game consoles, screens, Foosball tables and pool tables, and is decorated with vibrant colors. Cool luminaires were chosen with a high Color Rendering Index (CRI) to highlight the colors and promote a festive and fun space.

FarFetch North America

Los Angeles, CA

TYPE: SIZE:

Tenant Improvement 20,000 SF

When the global pioneering fashion brand Farfetch was in need of a new home in downtown Los Angeles at The BLOC, we duly stepped up to the task of creating an environment, integrating work, private shopping and event areas. The exponential growth of Farfetch had resulted in workspaces in their previous location that did not adequately represent the Farfetch brand identity. The rise of private shopping and entertaining within their global commercial spaces meant that Farfetch required a design scheme to unify their worldwide presence and bring their digital brand to life. Inspiration from the individual style that Farfetch curates and delivers to its global audience. Farfetch.com is where technology and fashion worlds collide, and the design team took references from both of these worlds to create and customize a design scheme that is as distinctive and stylish as both the Farfetch brand and its customers. The project consisted of an IDF Room, flexible seating cafe which can double as an event space with bleacher seating, conference rooms, high density workspaces, recreational areas and work rooms. This project is a true testament to teamwork with the speed and quality of the execution such a complex project. We provided MEP, Technology and Lighting services

Lighting Design 75,000 SF

LEED Platinum

Clif Bar’s headquarters is a warehouse, originally a World War II valve manufacturing facility, which has been transformed into office space for this leading provider of healthy food products. The project is designed with sustainable features such as solar panels, daylighting and energy efficient artificial lighting. Seventy five percent of the materials used in the build-out were repurposed, including 12,000 feet of reclaimed wood from shipping containers, barns and railroad ties. Transparency and open office culture are few of design elements emphasized by the client. The space celebrates the inherent natural light and volumetric space of the repurposed warehouse, while capturing the company culture and connecting employees to the outdoors through “biophilic” interior design. Daylight integra •on into the open offices with artificial lighting was one of the challenges in the project. Continuous dimming for luminaires in the open offices provided smooth transition from daylight to artificial light. The owner wanted to create an ambiance in his backyard with specific focal points highlighted at night which would feel like the extension of indoors into outdoors at nighttime. The feel of moonlight was achieved with fixtures concealed in tall trees creating a safe and glare free environment. Highlighting the trees with in-ground up lights hidden in the lawn created focal points in the yard. On a windy day, movement of the trees creates a dramatic effect on the garden. Techniques such as shadowing and silhouetting elements helped create the right ambiance for the space. Exterior lighting is controlled with an astronomical timeclock so the lighting is turned off at an appropriate time to encourage wildlife in the garden.
