We work with light.
When you are in a dark room and you ignite a match, you change the focus of the space. That small flame becomes the focus of the darkness, stimulating our emotions and entertaining our senses.
We believe that Lighting design is both an art and a science. It is a dance between aesthetics and functionality.
Light and architecture have the power to spark emotion transforming your space into an unforgettable experience.
If architecture represented the human body, lighting design would represent the soul.

SKETCHES Once we define themes/concepts, our next step is to quickly sketch these ideas. This gives us an opportunity to garner first impressions, observe any potential problems and uncover any aspects that could have been overseen.
F INAL RENDER Finally, we bring the sketches and ideas together into a realistic rendering to enable an understanding of hierarchy, contrast and balance. Once we reach our goal of translating our concept, we present it to the client and open the floor for feedback and ideas to ensure satisfaction, participation and communication.
ORIGINAL DES IGN
It all starts with the original design. We strive to develop an overarching theme or concept to connect our design.

San Francisco, CA
Size: 423,000 SF Architect: RMW Architecture & Interiors
Designing lighting for more than a building…
Lighting is a critical path when the client decided on taking a holistic design approach for health and wellbeing of the users. Access to nature and integration of artificial lighting with daylighting was critical design criteria throughout the design process. Project is LEED Gold certified with LPDs below code required 25% Title24 and is under WELL V2 certification process. MB12 served as a public space providing welcoming experience not only to the employees but also to visitors with event space, café, pre-function space and user experience lab.
Event space lighting is designed to cater multiple functions in the space for presentation, note taking and social gathering. Lighting is integrated with AV for different scene settings.
Coliseum is designed with theatrical lighting with gobo projectors, color changing fixtures. Architectural lighting is integrated with theatrical lighting for easy control and functionality.
UBER MI SS ION BAY 3&4
San Francisco, CA
Size: 532,000 SF Architect: Huntsman Architectural Group
Playful interplay of linear lighting integrated into the ceiling provides soft glare free illumination on work plane in training rooms.
When the Pandemic is behind us, what are the elements that bring us back to the office? Could it be the fun social spaces where we exchange our ideas, or could it be the nutritious meal that is provided by local vendors, or could it be those quiet spaces that give us the inspiration for innovative ideas? This project is about creating these spaces even before the pandemic happened and lighting is an integral part of achieving these goals.
An inviting lobby with dynamic lit ceiling behind light grazed wood curtain provides connection between outdoors to indoors.
Campus is provided with counseling locations with quiet rooms for mental health sessions. Circadian lighting sets the mood for any time of the day, while daylight views helps the connection to outdoors. Use of warm and dynamic decorative fixtures in break rooms create a calm and cozy settings to mimic living rooms at home. Meeting areas creates interesting areas where coworkers can share ideas in informal settings.
The idea of bringing nature into space is reinforced with the concept of fluffy clouds under a rainbow sky. 1-inch recessed linear light at the perimeter of dichroic glass box is used to bring up different hues and color tones in the glass while providing adequate ambient illumination.
UBER MI SS ION BAY CHI LDCARE
San Francisco, CA
Architect: ZGF Architects
ZGF envisioned the space to be playful, interesting, colorful, yet a comfortable environment for the little learners. Lighting enhanced the vision by adding soft and glowing pendants and sparkle with backlit wood panels. Daylighting is carefully integrated with artificial lighting to provide calm and comforting lighting in the childcare areas. To mimic nature in the interior spaces, wooden sculpture of a tree embarks the entrance. Sparkly pendant lights add sparkle to the wooden sculpture. Leaf shaped wood panels are backlit to create interest in the space.
DRIPP COFFEE
Costa Mesa ,CA
Architect: Abramson Architects
Costa Mesa represents a new chapter in the owner's vision to present their finely crafted coffee in a fresh new space at South Coast Plaza. Our lighting design group worked closely with Abramson Architects to create a space filled with light that would stand out from the crowd. In the ceiling, two18' long light-wells illuminate copper panels to create a unique skylight effect drawing in guests.

CONF IDENTIAL PROJECT F
Confidential Location
Type: Game Room Architect: Sheehan Nagle Hartray Architects
The architect wanted to create a lounge area that was both cozy and refreshing. To aide with acoustics, we choose the Light Echo Grid Acoustic fixture which has a fun look and also puts out a good amount of light (see image above). The space is consistent with a gaming area for workers to take breaks and to share a fun space at the end of the day. The space contains arcades, videogame consoles, screens, Foosball tables and pool tables, and is decorated with vibrant colors. Cool luminaires were chosen with a high Color Rendering Index (CRI), to highlight the colors and promote a festive and fun space.
1000 ENTERPRI SE WAY
Mountain View, CA
Type: Office & Classrooms Size: 42,000 SF Architect: SKB Architects
The architects used the seven highest mountains of each of the seven continents, called the Seven Summits, to inspire the design of their space. They combined sharp angles and cool colors to create a consistent and beautiful design. Our team used a warm white tone to add a welcoming touch to the space, as well as to enhance the angles and colors. We also used pendants to emphasize the sharp angles and promote the concept even further. We worked closely with the architect to develop a biophilic design that includes a living wall. We utilized 3500K for this component to promote plant growth and highlight the wall and its green colors. The integration of daylight in the design promoted the concepts of nature while also allowed us to reduce the LPD (light power density).
The project was designed below 20% of code required wattage per California Title 24
MOLEX
Fremont, CA
Type: Office & Lab Spaces Size: 100,000 SF Architect: ArcTec
The project consisted of the interior and exterior renovation from a cold shell to create office and lab spaces. It also included the addition of a new two-story lobby, a new façade and an extensive exterior site remodel. The combination of whites, grays, reds and woods gives the space a feel of simplicity and organization. So the lighting design focused on maintaining and highlighting these qualities. It combines this with a high Color Rendering Index (CRI) to highlight the reds in the space and promote the client brand. Finally, the project uses Power Over Ethernet (POE) lighting control systems to provide both energy savings data as well as lighting benefits such as room scheduling and temperature control.

LA AMERICAN APPAREL FLAGSHIP STORE
Melrose, CA
Type: Retail Space Size: 6,000 SF Architect: Valerio Architecture and Interiors
The client was inspired by the idea of bringing the outdoors indoors. Together with the design team, we pushed to make a statement by building around the palm tree, making it a major element of the store.
The architect wanted a very clean and simple design. We worked closely to bring very clean and even light using white track lighting that blended with the white ceiling.
One of the major challenges for lighting design for this space was the balance of (Light Power Density (LPD) and a tight budget. Given that both space and budget were limited, we ran many photometric calculations with multiple layout and fixture options to provide the client with a wide range of options that could work with those constraints.
PG&E MUSEUM L IGHTING
Winters, CA
Type: Display Size: 6,000 SF Architect: Dreyfus+Blackford Architects
The client wanted to highlight the importance of safely delivering natural gas to the people by displaying the ruptured pipe from the explosion September 9th, 2010 in San Bruno. The pipe display is the focal point of the safety academy. The objective of the design was to emphasize the pipe’s organic form and texture in different hues of colors. Lighting effects aide on translating some conceptual terms into fire, ice and water elements. RGB colors are programmed to light up the pipe with national holiday colors.
Our team also developed the lighting in the lobby area aiming for a clean look with cylindrical pendants and a linear detail in the desk to highlight the client’s brand.

CL I F BAR HEADQUARTERS
Emeryville, CA
Type: Office Campus Size: 75,000 SF Architect: ZGF Architects
Clif Bar’s headquarters is a warehouse, originally a World War II valve manufacturing facility, which has been transformed into office space for this leading provider of healthy food products. The project is designed with sustainable features such as solar panels, daylighting and energy efficient artificial lighting. Seventy five percent of the materials used in the build-out were repurposed, including 12,000 feet of reclaimed wood from shipping containers, barns and railroad ties. Transparency and open office culture are few of design elements emphasized by the client. The space celebrates the inherent natural light and volumetric space of the repurposed warehouse, while capturing the company culture and connecting employees to the outdoors through “biophilic” interior design. Daylight integration into the open offices with artificial lighting was one of the challenges in the project. Continuous dimming for luminaires in the open offices provided smooth transition from daylight to artificial light. Color temperatures of the sources are carefully considered according to the function of the space.

54,000 square foot office space for Mozilla’s headquarters in Mountain View, CA. The project is designed with Power Over Ethernet (POE) luminaires and controls where each luminaire is individually addressable The client wanted to design the space with a lighting system that not only provides illumination in the space, and provides architectural integrity, but also wanted lighting controls to provide data about occupancy from a real estate management standpoint. Mozilla Spaces are open environments where Mozillians can work side by side: hacking, coding, designing, researching and creating. There are places for them to meet, collaborate and continue to build a brighter future for the Web.
In collaboration with MKThink Architects, we were able to achieve open and transparent environments with artificial and daylight integration.

GORDON AND BETTY MOORE
Palo Alto, CA
Type: Office Space Size: 62,00 SF Architect: HPS
The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation wanted to develop an office space for their non-profit organization with a highly sustainable design and a LEED focus. Our team promoted daylight fenestration in the lobby space to maximize the amount of natural light while minimizing the amount of glare. We also encouraged the contrasts and shadows at the front desk. The architect also had the vision of a leaf petal ceiling design for the open office. We conveyed the concept by adding linear lights only at the center of each petal to keep a tight and consistent concept throughout the space.
