LIGHTING STUDIO AlfaTech’s Lighting Studio provides aesthetically pleasing and sustainable design solutions for some of the world’s most complex and high-performing buildings. AlfaTech Lighting Studio brings a creative spirit to each project. We work closely with clients to gain an understanding of project requirements and goals. The Lighting Studio works with the design team to chart the best course based on our client’s objectives, the architect’s design, building systems, facility operational strategies, sustainability goals, and energy efficiency. Every building is unique, each having its own aesthetic and operational preferences. Lighting Studio considers preferences with great attention and detail. We are well-versed in coordinating with a range of consultants handling mechanical, electrical, plumbing, acoustical, structural, landscape, civil, security, and signage. The Lighting Studio possesses a wide range of project experience, offering a range of design and analytical services supporting a project from beginning to post-occupancy. Services include schematic daylighting design studies, facility orientation, and daylighting modeling to yield favorable LEED accreditation outcomes. AlfaTech Lighting Studio delivers solutions to address a range of goals, reducing energy consumption by harvesting daylight. Our Lighting Studio aims to delight occupants by bringing the daylight into a space by evenly distributing light while mitigating glare by considering how the eye adapts. We believe design should seamlessly transition from daylight to electric lighting, dynamically considering the sun’s rotation as it engages with a space. Our approach ensures a stimulating space that plays with light and shadow. Additionally, outdoor views have positive effects. Lighting Studio values and brings a biophilic design connecting occupants with nature. DESIGN THAT PLAYS WITH DAYLIGHT AND CONNECTS WITH NATURE

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS

AlfaTech Lighting Studio engages daylighting model software to provide visual representations of how daylight will impact a facility. These images allow more informed design decision-making. Our clients expect floor plan calculation points and renderings to gain a better sense of light distribution. Lighting Studio provides floor plans, 3D views, and sectional perspectives to gain an insight into how daylight affects the space.

ALFATECH PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Los Angeles International Airport, Terminal 1

Los Angeles, CA

TYPE: SIZE:

Tenant Improvement 346,000 SF

This is a total renovation of Terminal 1 at the Los Angeles International Airport. The terminal’s entrance, ticket counters, and Skycap operations were moved from the east end of the building to the west side to ease traffic congestion a problem motorists frequently encounter when entering the central terminal area at peak travel times. A reprogrammed departures and arrivals level will feature a “Lobby of the Future,” which includes self check -in and self-tag bag drop kiosks, a 12-lane security screening checkpoint, two large bag claim devices, and a high-speed in-line screening baggage handling system. Combined, these features will make departure and arrivals systems more balanced and efficient both curbside and within the terminal. Once through security, passengers will experience a bright, modern concourse. Twelve gates will have new, enlarged hold rooms with integrated concessions and passenger amenities. An additional 25,000 SF of retail and dining space will feature a variety of finishing materials and sculpted facades, nearly doubling the current concessions area.

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the sixth busiest airport in the world and third in the United States. In 2013, Terminal 2 served more than 5.5 million travelers. Constructed in 1962 as LAX’s original international terminal, Terminal 2 was demolished and rebuilt in 1988. As a part of the overall LAX Concessions Renovation Program with Westfield, we were contracted to deliver their cutting-edge design of the Terminal 2 modernization. The interior renovation will transform the existing dated terminal into a new, world class experience for travelers that features 20 new dining and retail destinations. With three distinct districts, the traveler journey begins after crossing the TSA checkpoint with a meandering Commercial Hub that connects to a Dining Terrace with several unique destinations, textured surfaces and lounge-style seating. The journey continues with The Strand, an open, flowing dining and shopping area with a grand, sculptural staircase leading to a mezzanine with café that overlooks the concourse below. The 84,000 SF LAX Terminal 2 project includes interior renovations to the existing arrivals level concourse including a re- invention of the aesthetic of the concourse and a rebranding of concessions. The same is true for the departures level concourse and includes all concessions, retail shops, passenger hold rooms, vertical circulation, and restroom facilities. Also included in the scope of this project are significant renovations to the infrastructure of the terminal including mechanical air distribution and controls, lighting and power distribution for all public areas of the terminal, and grease collection systems for the food service tenants.
