For the University of San Francisco, this 61,610 SF, five-level John Lo Schiavo, S.J. Situated in the center of campus it is a focus of student life and the primarily underground building design allowed for multi-level outdoor classrooms. Center for Science and Innovation, near the middle of the campus off Masonic Avenue. This building houses 17 wet and dry teaching/computational labs, classrooms, support spaces and offices and serves more than 6,000 students required to take one science and math course during their undergraduate time at USF. The building is the first constructed to meet LEED Gold standards at USF and features floor-to-ceiling windows, smart technology that opens and closes windows automatically for temperature, a 28,000-gallon cistern tank to collect rainwater for reuse, and indigenous Northern California landscaping.
