8100 JARVIS LIFE SCIENCE LAB WARM-UP, Newark, CA Principal-in-Charge for this project consisting of converting two 49,000 SF office buildings for Life Sciences use. Work consists of the MEP Basis of Design and detailed design phases. BIO-RAD RESIN CAPACITY EXPANSION PROJECT, Richmond, CA AlfaTech prepared the Basis of design for Bio- Rad’s capacity expansion project. The scope included development of mass balances and determination of production bottlenecks to identify new equipment required to accommodate projected production targets. The team developed the basis for process, mechanical, electrical, controls and structural design for renovation of the existing Richmond plant. 10x GENOMICS, Pleasanton, CA Principal-in-Charge for this project consisting of design and construction of two ISO 6 clean rooms with localized ISO 5 environments. The facility manufactures diagnostic equipment including semiconductor equipment. The facility includes DI water, chilled water, solvent system, lab gases, gas monitoring and hazardous material storage and hazardous waste collection. AT provided all architectural design for the clean rooms, gowning rooms and utility rooms as well as all process piping. We provided peer review of HVAC, electrical and structural design. *JANSSEN PHARMACEUTICALS, Vacaville, CA Principal in Charge for numerous facilities upgrade and expansion projects since 1996. Projects were executed throughout all aspects of the facility including labs, manufacturing process and HVAC systems and building utility upgrades, manufacturing clean room projects, site infrastructure and utilities and administrative tenant improvements. Projects included: • Multi-year plantwide HVAC system renovation and replacement to modernize the plant’s clean room HVAC systems and to meet cGMP requirements. • Process Dust Collection System collecting hazardous dust produced pharmaceutical product manufacturing. • Manufacturing Suite projects to accommodate new products and processes including suite workflow layout, utility system design (electrical, O2, AOF, N2, chilled water, clean steam, etc.), waste streams, Architectural improvements. • Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer • Manufacturing Equipment Safety Upgrades to meet J&J Corporate safety standards • Raw Materials Warehousing and Lab • 1MW Solar Farm Condition Assessment and Upgrades • Manufacturing Washrooms • QC Labs • Code Studies
*BAYER HEALTHCARE, Various Projects, Berkeley, CA Project Executive for several projects at Bayer’s Berkeley campus. Projects included the upgrade of the HVAC system for the nearly 100-year-old B14. Performed the project using Target Costing methodology. In addition, he managed work to relocate the plant’s BioAnalytics lab including redesign of the lab layout, provision of all utilities and architectural design including cabinetry and finishes. ST. *GENENTECH, South San Francisco, CA Principal in Charge supporting Genentech’s Small Project Portfolio program for the pharmaceutical research and manufacturing company’s South San Francisco Campus. Provided Architecture and Engineering planning, design and construction support for a wide variety of facility projects including Research labs, GMP Cold Room upgrades, Building condition assessment and upgrades, waste stream compliance and utility systems. Utility systems include electrical infrastructure, steam, compressed air, exhaust, fire suppression, domestic water, sanitary sewer, chilled water and plant gases. *CONFIDENTIAL CLIENT, Novato, CA Project Executive for a utility yard expansion for lab and manufacturing facilities. The project included specification and design for addition of a 400-ton chiller to an existing 1000-ton system and 7,000 lb steam boiler to an existing 125 psig plant steam system. The scope also included design of a new enclosed two-story plant utility yard structure with architectural finishes to match the existing building. Challenges included design of new distribution piping to connect new equipment to the existing chilled water and plant steam systems, accommodation of existing equipment including emergency generator and water treatment systems as well as the facility’s loading dock.
