SEQUOIA UNION HIGH SCHOOL DI STRICT WOODSIDE HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

Woodside, CA

Type: Performing Arts Center Size: 27,300 SF

The firm provided engineering design services for a new performing arts center that includes a 500-seat auditorium with a professional-size 35–foot-by-90 foot stage and fly tower. A multipurpose room that can be used as a dance studio, green room, or a drama classroom also has dressing rooms, a costume fitting room, a scenery workshop, a lobby, restrooms, offices, and instrument storage for the music department. Flexibility is the essential programmatic requirement for this Performing Arts Center. The stage includes an adjustable orchestra lift supplied by Gala Spiralift, enabling it to be raised and lowered in seconds even with the entire orchestra seated on it. The theater also features the first digital rigging system on the West Coast. It operates in the fly space with room enough for expansion.
