New Construction, Tenant Improvement 52,000 SF

AlfaTech provided mechanical and electrical engineering design services to the Children's Discovery Museum at 180 Woz Way, San Jose, CA. The 52,000 SF building built in 1987 consists of two floors and a basement. The building is comprised of exhibition areas, offices, storage, exhibit shop, theater, associated production space, and other associated uses. The basement has a boiler, fire pump, and storage room. The original 1987 construction consisted of 42,788 SF, with the West Wing expansion in 1996 taking the square footage up to 50,122. There was a temporary shop adjacent to the current shop, which has been removed and will be replaced with a permanent, 3,200 SF shop. The project replaces two trane air-cooled chiller in-kind, three chilled water pumps including gauges and valves, flushing the system, replacing all insulation, and balancing the hydronic system. The existing ductwork will remain. The current air handling systems will stay. The 3-way valves for the air handlers will be replaced, and the existing VAV boxes and controls will remain.
