Maurice J. Gallagher Hall, home of the UC Davis Graduate School of Management (GSM) is a 3-story, 40,000 SF building housing a student affairs and career services centre with advanced technology systems installed in the classrooms to promoting interactive learning, a courtyard and outdoor garden. The adjacent Conference Center is a two story 43,000 SF building with conference rooms, ballroom and restaurant space on the first floor and University Relations space on the 2 nd floor. Coupled with the ground source heat pump array, the radiant floor slab system allows for mixed mode operation. Spaces are cooled or heated through radiated energy allowing occupants to open windows to control ventilation air with minimal impact to the system. The buildings consume 30% less energy than a typical office building in California. The roofs of the buildings are planned to house 102kW photovoltaic solar power array. The 144,000kW/h system is expected to generate about 20% of the building’s electricity requirements. Radiant core cooling and heating system, ground source heat pump array, motion-sensitive lighting and tall windows for natural light reduce the energy consumption. The first LEED Platinum-certified MBA facility in California.
