The firm provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering design services for this university campus expansion project for Soka University which consists of two buildings. The 4-story, 91,370 SF Marie and Pierre Curie Hall (STEM building) features 19 labs, three classrooms, 26 faculty and administrative offices, 11 conference rooms and a 100-seat auditorium alongside open collaborative spaces and student workstations throughout the facility. Core lab facilities, including an aquatics lab, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), accommodate advanced research and help recruit new faculty. The building’s instructional lab modules allow for interactive teaching and hands-on learning in this open, flexible, interactive and sustainable building to support the new life sciences concentration for undergraduate students interested in biology, biomedical research, biotechnology, public health and medicine (pre-med). The Resident Housing are twin, 4-story, 52,470 SF buildings which anchor the university’s southwest border. Each hall contains 50 housing units (made up of single- and double –bedroom dormitories), meeting and social spaces, a kitchen and 24-hour study rooms with a covered walkway connecting the buildings. Both proposed projects were designed to accommodate a LEED Gold Building Certification.
