AlfaTech recently completed Uber’s new ground up innovative sustainable headquarters which is comprised of one 6 -story structure and one 11-story structure connected by transparent bridges in the Mission Bay district of San Francisco. AlfaTech provided design/bid/build style Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) engineering, lighting design, and Technology (low voltage, security, audio/visual) services, throughout the entire project. AlfaTech was part of the construction administration effort and served as the engineer-of-record for mechanical and electrical installations. Entering the building from the main lobby welcomes visitors and employees with a back lit screen with changing lighting tones from sunrise to sunset mimicking daylighting. The main lobby is punctuated with ‘The Stream*’ designed by experience design agency HUSH, which represents Uber’s mission to keep the world in motion. Multiple LED tubes are programmed with a series of motion-based content that ranges from artistic to typography to documentary stories which translate beams of moving light into Uber’s activities of impact. The Event Space is designed to maintain connection to the street and city. Lighting concept follows the connection from outdoor to indoor. The back wall representing The City’s abstract grid is highlighted with a cool color temperature to replicate city lights. The curved ceiling element in the café connects people from servery to seating area and wraps around the seating area where people can gather. This illumination designed around the seating area is made up of decorative lights representing water falls at the end of a creek. AlfaTech provided engineering strategies and Smart Building System Matrix outlining all systems that should be included in the Intelligent Smart Building System.
