The firm provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering design for the transformation of a historic 1940s-era, 3-story, 51,500-square-foot building into a welcoming haven for veterans through adaptive reuse and renovation. The project involved converting the space into a therapeutic and supportive residential program for homeless veterans, comprising 45 single occupancy and 10 double occupancy apartments. The facility includes essential amenities such as a community kitchen, laundry room, reading room, activity room/counseling area, and a dedicated community room. The HVAC system implemented is an efficient solution utilizing district steam for hot water heating and integrates new local chillers for chilled water cooling. Air Handling Units strategically placed in the spacious attic deliver variable volume air to hot water terminal reheat units, ensuring effective zoning. All AHUs are equipped with full air-side economizer cycles for optimal energy efficiency. The incorporation of low-flow water fixtures, Contributes to a 45% reduction in the building's potable water consumption. To further enhance long-term energy efficiency, the project includes a green cleaning program and the installation of Energy Star appliances, reflecting our dedication to creating a resilient and environmentally conscious living space for veterans.
